SPORTS HALL TUSHINO

OFIS arhitekti in collaboration with structural Engineers Inforce Project, has been selected as the winners of an international competition to design a sport complex inside new mixed-use development in the Tushino district of Moscow, Russia for the Moscow client VI holding. “The Loop” is a mixture of various indoor and outdoor public sport spaces where Tushino workers and inhabitants could meet, socialize, relax, connect to the nature or make sport. The complex is created by 2 separate buildings – Ice arena and Rhythmic gymnastic halls that share the same roofand large Fitness with Pool and Spa. Entire complex is designed in a way that creates rich outdoor public and semi public spaces. “Gem” of the project is the “Loop”. It is a design feature that makes the building not only a sport hall but with simple design gesture creates an architectural Icon. The rounded cantilevered roof is a canopy covering semi public outdoor space on the fron side of the building. It is also functional element that creates a Tushino High line – raising walking or running outdoor opened path that can be used as cardio running track in combination with fitness or simply beautiful outdoor romantic walk that offers beautiful views to the river and Tushino area. Symbolicaly the Loop represents the airplane loop - flight of an airplane as a memory to Toshino airfield, all remarkable milestones of Russian pilots using this airfield and Valery Chkalov and his 63-hour flight from Moscow, Soviet Union to Vancouver, Washington via the North Pole on an Tupolev ANT-25. The connection between the building and the significant history and role of Tushino area will introduce the local identity and heritage and create that the Sport complex and the neighbourhood will become special and different; establishing its own character.
